Photo Usage
Don’t get us wrong. We WANT you to take these pictures and put them up on your Facebook or Myspace or where ever the hell you want to. It’s part of our marketing strategy. With out you sharing the images we wouldn’t receive anywhere near the amount of traffic that we do. That being said we use a modified creative commons copyright. The easiest way to explain it is that you can use ANY picture you want that’s in our albums, as long as you leave the copyright and the plaRAWKstar watermark intact and may only make minor modifications to the images making sure to preserve the photographers original art work.
You would not believe the thousands of dollars and endless hours that we put into creating these images for you. The only way we see any benefit from it is if you use the pictures with the watermarks visible or the photographer is financially compensated.
On occasion we have seen our photos being cropped on social networking sites. Not cool when it doesn’t leave the watermarks. Get in touch with the photographer, if you want it cropped a certain way they will generally do it for you for free. We’ve also seen our photos on promotional material for bands and or clubs. This is a major copyright violation and the automatic penalty for each violation is triple indemnity. For promotional material this can become VERY expensive for who ever used it. We don’t charge a lot of money for our photos to be used and it’s just better to get in touch with us and work something out. 1. You’ll get a much higher resolution. 2. We will remove the watermark and copyright for paid images. 3. It’s the right thing to do.
But what do I do if I’ve already broken the copyright? Usually just let us know and removing the image will be enough. If the image is already on promotional material the best bet is to hope the photographer is in a good mood and will work out a price that doesn’t assume that you’ve already broken the copyright.
Thanks everyone and enjoy the photos.
